West Africa

Ghana West Africa is situated in the Gulf of Guinea between Toga and the Ivory Coast.  This area was known in colonial times as the Gold Coast due to the large deposits of gold that are in the area.  The northern part of Africa is Arabic and as you move south the population becomes more of what is considered traditional African culture. All of the coastal countries of West Africa are predominately Christian influenced in the southern half and Islamic influenced in the northern half. The West Africa mission is our original mission that started our outreach globally.  I (Bob Hartman) first visited Ghana West Africa in 2000.  It was before  this time that I had fallen under conviction to find my next calling and I found it in Africa.  Since 2002 I have been evangelizing in West Africa and America splitting my time at six months between the two with the aid of my wife Rose.

Ghana

Ghana has an area of 92,497 sq. mi.  It is approximately the size of the state of Oregon, but Ghana has a population of over 28 million people, which is seven times the population of Oregon. Ghana was a British colony but they gained independence on May 6, 1957.  The official language of Ghana is English but there are ten recognized languages in Ghana and several other languages and dialects throughout the country.

Traveling to Lompe

Lompe was the first village where we started a new work in 2003.  It is a difficult place to get to, especially during the rainy season.  We often have to travel by canoe and then walk through the bush to get there.

Radio Ministry

We had an opportunity to go on the air in Salaga in 2018 for a couple of months due to some specified donations for this ministry. Ulanja (who is pictured here) is the one who manages the affairs of the ministry in my absence and evangelizes throughout the region. If God blesses us to continue this ministry at a later date, we will start again.

Simboma

This is the church at Simboma.  This is one of the most recent churches we have begun.  The roof structure that they are meeting under was provided by a donation of $2,500.00 from a saint in Lima, Ohio.  This makes it possible for them to build the walls themselves later from local materials.

Baptism at Salaga

As those who love the truth, we have a firm belief that what God has said in the New Covenant is the unarguable truth.  In order for one to fulfill his faith, he must gladly receive the message of the apostle's doctrine:

"Repent, and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

Campus Ministries

We are involved with campus ministries.  This picture is at a passing out ceremony at the University of Developmental Studies.  The students have set up their own ministry on campus and each year, as the seniors pass out, they  assign new officers in the ministry.  They meet in a classroom every Lord's day, and they also have outsiders come in whom they have converted in evangelism, as they are the only Church of Christ in the town.  We are also working in the Salaga Senior High School campus.

Advanced Training Seminars

While I am in Africa, we have advanced training seminars for three days every month. Preachers, elders, and interested church members travel from many areas to attend these classes.

The Wedding of Martha and Gabriel

I have been privileged to be able to counsel and solemnized marriages for several couples in my time in Ghana.  It is a true blessing.
