Mission Report

November 2021

Greetings to all in the name of Christ:

We praise God for the work that He has called us to and we are thankful to all the saints who are part of this great work. Rose and I arrived in Accra on October 8th. I taught at the Tabora assembly on Sunday, October 10. After a few days in Accra visiting some of the saints and getting supplies we headed north with Martha, Cecelia, and Asher, who had come to Accra to meet us and to get some work done on some documents. After traveling to Salaga we were hit with several funerals in the first two weeks. The first was a memorial service for Thomas Mpor who had passed one year ago. Thomas was the preacher at the Kuwani church who was also handling several other churches in the area. He died suddenly and he was only in his forties. After that, a student of the Tamale Bible School from the nearby village of Kayerso died the next week after the memorial service and I went to preach his funeral. That same week Comfort’s grandmother died, and then Comfort’s Uncle Robert, the grandmother’s oldest son, passed after hearing of the death of his mother. Comfort was taken into our house last year when she had a severe infection in her leg that would have cost her the leg, or her life, if we had not taken her from the village and nursed her to health. Her father and mother died about 10 years ago. Her father, John, was training in our classes to preach and had moved to Sabonjida to establish an assembly there. Within a couple of months his wife died and a couple of months later John passed away. His three children were sent to live with other family members and the church has given support for education and clothing often over the years. However, Comfort had remained in the village in order to take care of her ailing grandmother. Since her injury, Comfort has remained in the house. The house people have been teaching her to read and write and there are plans to send her to an apprenticeship for hair dressing.

We had training classes in October 28,29, and 30. There were more than forty people here for the trainings each day. We are planning for another round of classes on November 25,26, and 27. We are currently studying through Mark.

On November 11, I traveled to Zebaga with Joseph, one of the young preachers under my tutelage, and Lukman Mubarak. We were also joined by saints from Duuni and Kpantinga, which are closer to the village than we are in Salaga. I had stopped Zebaga with Joseph in April to drop off a gift for his relative who had given birth. When I was there I sat down to eat with some of the local people and, as is my habit, I began asking them questions concerning their religious backgrounds. I found that some of them had been part of the Lord’s church, but the church had collapsed due to corrupt leadership. I asked if there was a house I could stay at if I returned later in the year and was immediately offered a room in the house of one of those who was present. We taught each night and went door to door during the day to teach. We found four of those who had been previously immersed into Christ and 25 others who they recorded as committing to return for more teaching when we returned. We made a plan that the nearby churches would send men every Sunday evening to do teachings and give the Lord’s Supper to those who had been immersed. Joseph will come from Salaga once in the month to teach and to monitor the situation. We will look at other opportunities to give more teachings as we progress there.

There are far more things to speak of and so I hope that when I return to the states I will be able to come into each area and present a full report on the work. May God bless you according to your faith.
